What you get (+1 bonus)

  • Consent defaults done the documented way.

Denied for the EEA, UK and Switzerland on the Consent Initialization trigger, a rest-of-world default shipped as denied for you to review, wait_for_update, and ads_data_redaction on by default. Built on Google's consent APIs through a Community Template Gallery template, embedded in the file. No Custom HTML.

  • Google tags left to do their job.

The Google tag, GA4, Google Ads and the Conversion Linker use their built-in consent checks, so you get Advanced consent mode without double-gating.

  • Shop: ecommerce wired to the data layer.

One GA4 event tag for view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout and purchase, and a Google Ads purchase conversion with value, transaction ID and currency.

  • A CMP-agnostic update path.

When to switch to your CMP's own template (Cookiebot, Usercentrics, CookieYes and others), and a ready, paused update tag for self-built banners.

  • A 10-minute Preview test.

What gcs and gcd should read before and after a choice, how to check regional defaults, and how to confirm the em parameter on the conversion request.

  • +1 bonus

Who it's for, and who it's not for

A tracking specialist at a small agency works through a printed test checklist before publishing a shop client's tag setup.

Who it's for

  • Agencies and freelancers who set up GTM for clients and want a clean, consistent base to merge into each container.
  • In-house marketers and developers who'd rather start from a checked file than click through twenty screens.
  • Owners who want to hand their developer a correct starting point and know what "done" looks like.

Who it's not for

  • Anyone looking for a cookie banner. This works alongside your banner; it isn't one.
  • Sites that need Basic consent mode (Google tags blocked until consent): the README explains the switch, but these files are built for Advanced.
  • Already have a container? Audit it with Claude or ChatGPT first: Audit Your Google Tag Manager Container With Claude or ChatGPT https://trackian.com/resources/gtm-container-audit-with-ai.

Honest note

This is a starting point, not a compliance product. It won't ask visitors for consent, store their choices or make your site legally compliant on its own, and whether visitors outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland start as granted or denied is a legal call for you (we ship it denied). It has been checked against Google's documentation and our validator; import it into a new workspace and run the Preview test in the README before you publish.
